Kenya is a year-round destination. The dry seasons, June to October and January to February, offer the easiest game viewing. July to October is the peak for the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, with river crossings most likely from August to September. The long rains (March to May) bring lower prices and green landscapes.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is in south-western Kenya, about 270 km from Nairobi, and borders the Serengeti in Tanzania. You can drive from Nairobi in roughly 5 to 6 hours or take a short scheduled flight of about 45 minutes to an airstrip near your camp. We arrange both options.

Most travellers find 5 to 7 days ideal: 3 days in the Maasai Mara plus a second park such as Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha or Amboseli. Shorter 3 to 4 day trips work well for a first taste, while 10 to 12 day circuits cover the northern and southern parks and the coast.

Choose light, breathable clothes in neutral colours such as khaki, olive and tan. Avoid bright white, black and dark blue. Pack layers, because early morning game drives are cool, plus a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable closed shoes. A light rain jacket is useful in the wetter months.
