    Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Bogoria National Reserve

Depart Nairobi in the morning and enjoy a scenic drive down the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive at Lake Bogoria National Reserve, a saline lake famous for its steaming hot springs and massive flocks of Lesser Flamingos that turn the water pink. Check in at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort for lunch. In the afternoon, head out for a game drive and birding walk along the lake shores to photograph the flamingos and look for the Greater Kudu.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort.

Day 2: Full Day Birding at Lake Bogoria

Spend the day exploring the diverse habitats of Lake Bogoria. Start with an early morning birding session to spot species like the Little Grebe, Pratincole, and Swift. You will also visit the bubbling geysers and hot springs. The reserve is relatively small, allowing for a relaxed pace to focus on photography and spotting reptiles and smaller mammals. Return to the resort to enjoy the natural thermal spa pool.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort.

Day 3: Lake Bogoria to Lake Baringo

After breakfast, drive north to Lake Baringo, a freshwater haven in the arid Rift Valley. This lake is a birdwatcher’s paradise, boasting over 470 recorded species. Check in at Tumbili Cliff Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided bird walk along the cliffs and shores to spot the Hemprich’s Hornbill, White-bellied Canary, and the majestic African Fish Eagle.

Dinner and overnight at Tumbili Cliff Lodge.

Day 4: Boat Ride & Birding in Lake Baringo

Wake up early for a boat ride on Lake Baringo (optional but highly recommended for birders). This is the best way to see hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds like the Goliath Heron and Kingfishers up close. Visit the Njemps fishing villages or take a nature walk to spot owls and nightjars roosting in the trees. The cliffs around the lodge are perfect for spotting Verreaux’s Eagles.

Dinner and overnight at Tumbili Cliff Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Baringo to Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart Baringo and drive south to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp for lunch with a view of the Menengai Crater. In the afternoon, descend into the park for a game drive. Nakuru is a sanctuary for both Black and White Rhinos and offers spectacular birding, including Pelicans, Cormorants, and varying numbers of flamingos depending on water levels.

Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp.

Day 6: Full Day in Lake Nakuru National Park

Enjoy a full day of exploration in Lake Nakuru. Start with a morning game drive to the Baboon Cliff viewpoint for a panoramic view of the lake. Search for the rare Rothschild Giraffe and tree-climbing lions in the acacia forests. Birdwatchers will delight in the sheer variety of species, from raptors to waders. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park or return to camp for a break before your evening drive.

Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, journey further south to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. Stop for lunch in Narok town before entering the reserve. Check in at Mara Sopa Lodge. Your first afternoon game drive in the Mara introduces you to the vast savannahs teeming with the Big Five—Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino—alongside an incredible array of raptors and vultures.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 8: Full Day Exploration of Maasai Mara

Spend the entire day in the Maasai Mara with a packed picnic lunch. This allows you to venture deep into the reserve, perhaps all the way to the Mara River where hippos and crocodiles bask. For birders, the Mara hosts over 500 species, including the Lilac-breasted Roller, Secretary Bird, and Southern Ground Hornbill. Keep an eye out for the drama of predator-prey interactions on the open plains.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 9: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Enjoy a final early morning game drive to catch the sunrise and active predators one last time. After a full breakfast, check out and begin your return drive to Nairobi. You will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), concluding your incredible 9-day birding and wildlife adventure.
