    Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive north across the Equator to the arid landscapes of Samburu National Reserve. Arrive at Ashnil Samburu Camp for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Keep your binoculars ready for arid-specialists like the Somali Ostrich and the regal Beisa Oryx.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Day 2: Full Day Birding in Samburu

Spend a full day exploring Samburu. This reserve is a haven for raptors and unique species. Look out for the striking Vulturine Guineafowl, the Kori Bustard, and the Martial Eagle. Between bird sightings, you will likely encounter elephants digging for water in dry riverbeds and the rare Grevy’s Zebra.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Day 3: Samburu to Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart Samburu and drive to the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park. Check in at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp. After lunch, head out for a game drive. The lake is world-famous for its masses of Lesser and Greater Flamingos turning the shores pink, as well as the Great White Pelican.

Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp.

Day 4: Birdwatching & Rhino Sanctuary in Nakuru

Dedicate the day to the diverse habitats of Lake Nakuru. Beyond the soda lake, the acacia woodlands are home to the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe and Leopards. Birders should scan the trees for the African Fish Eagle and the Verreaux’s Eagle Owl. The park is also a premier sanctuary for both Black and White Rhinos.

Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Travel along the Rift Valley floor to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at Mara Ashnil Camp in time for lunch. The afternoon game drive introduces you to Kenya’s predator paradise. While looking for Lions and Cheetahs, birders can spot the Secretary Bird striding across the plains and the Southern Ground Hornbill.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Ashnil Camp.

Day 6: Full Day Maasai Mara Experience

Enjoy a full day of game viewing in the Mara. If travelling between July and October, you may witness the Great Migration. The open savannahs are excellent for spotting raptors like the Bateleur and the Tawny Eagle. A picnic lunch in the wild allows for uninterrupted observation of wildlife interactions.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Ashnil Camp.

Day 7: Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha

Depart the Mara for the freshwater jewel of the Rift, Lake Naivasha. Check in at Lake Naivasha Simba Camp. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride (optional) to spot Hippos and waterbirds such as the Goliath Heron, Pied Kingfisher, and African Jacana at close range.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Camp.

Day 8: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park

Journey south to Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. An evening game drive offers chances to photograph huge herds of elephants with the mountain as a backdrop. Look for the localized Taveta Golden Weaver near the lodges.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

Day 9: Full Day Safari in Amboseli

Spend the day exploring Amboseli’s swamps and dry lake beds. The wetlands attract a high density of waterbirds, including the Grey Crowned Crane and various species of Plovers and Sandpipers. The park is also famous for its high density of free-ranging elephants and clear views of Kilimanjaro.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

    Day 10: Amboseli to Nairobi

Begin with an early morning game drive to catch the sunrise. After breakfast, depart for Nairobi. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport in the afternoon, bringing your 10-day birding and wildlife adventure to a close.
