Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive south towards Amboseli National Park, watching the habitats transition from highland to savannah. Arrive at Amboseli Simba Camp in time for lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to your first game drive and birding session. Keep your binoculars ready for waterbirds around the swamps, including Kingfishers, Pelicans, and the African Fish Eagle, all set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Simba Camp.

Day 2: Exploring Amboseli National Park

Wake up early for a morning game drive when the air is crisp and bird activity is high. Amboseli is home to over 400 bird species. Look for the Taveta Golden Weaver and the Pangani Longclaw in the grasslands, while also observing the park’s famous large herds of Elephants. Return to the camp for a relaxing lunch. In the afternoon, continue your exploration, focusing on raptors and migratory species depending on the season.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Simba Camp.

Day 3: Amboseli to Tsavo East National Park

After breakfast, check out and journey to Tsavo East National Park, a vast wilderness known for its red soil and arid-adapted wildlife. Check in at Ashnil Aruba Lodge, located next to the Aruba Dam, a magnet for wildlife and birdlife. After lunch, head out on a game drive to spot the Golden-breasted Starling, Somali Ostrich, and Vulturine Guineafowl, alongside the famous “Red Elephants” of Tsavo.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 4: Full Day in Tsavo East National Park

Spend a full day exploring the diverse habitats of Tsavo East. Start with an early morning drive to catch the sunrise and active predators. With a picnic lunch packed, you can venture further into the park. Your guide will help you spot raptors like the Martial Eagle and Bateleur, as well as the Kori Bustard. The Aruba Dam area is particularly rewarding for spotting waterbirds and thirsty mammals.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 5: Tsavo East to Arabuko Sokoke Forest

Leave the savannah behind and drive towards the coast to the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, the largest remaining fragment of coastal forest in East Africa. Check in at your Watamu Resort and enjoy a coastal lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a nature walk in the forest. This area is critical for bird conservation, home to six globally threatened bird species, including the tiny Sokoke Scops Owl.

Dinner and overnight at your Watamu Resort.

Day 6: Arabuko Sokoke Forest Birding

Dedicate the morning to deep forest birdwatching. Arabuko Sokoke is the only place to see the rare Clarke’s Weaver and the Sokoke Pipit. The forest also hosts the Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew. Return to your hotel for lunch and a rest. In the late afternoon, enjoy another nature walk or explore the nearby Mida Creek, a haven for migratory waders like Crab-plovers and Greater Flamingos.

Dinner and overnight at your Watamu Resort.

Day 7: Arabuko Sokoke to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi. This drive takes you through the scenic coastal landscape and up the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon, where you will be dropped off for your onward flight, marking the end of your rich birding and wildlife adventure.
