Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Your expedition begins with a scenic drive north, crossing the equator into the Northern Frontier District. Arrive at Samburu National Reserve, a landscape of dry scrub and the winding Ewaso Nyiro River. Check in at Samburu Ashnil Camp for lunch. In the afternoon, search for the “Samburu Special Five”—unique species like the Reticulated Giraffe and Grevy’s Zebra found only in this region.

Dinner and overnight at Samburu Ashnil Camp.

Day 2: Full Day Exploration of Samburu

Spend a full day discovering the unique beauty of Samburu. Unlike the southern parks, Samburu offers rare sightings of the Gerenuk (giraffe-necked antelope) and the Somali Ostrich. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives along the riverbanks where elephants dig for water and leopards rest in the doum palms. The dramatic backdrop of Ol Olokwe mountain provides stunning photography opportunities.

Dinner and overnight at Samburu Ashnil Camp.

Day 3: Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, travel south to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This sanctuary is home to the largest population of Black Rhinos in East Africa and the world’s last two Northern White Rhinos. Check in at Sweetwaters Serena Camp. Visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and enjoy an afternoon game drive with Mount Kenya providing a majestic backdrop.

Dinner and overnight at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart the highlands and descend into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Famous for its birdlife and rhino sanctuary, Nakuru offers a lush contrast to the north. Check in at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge. Your afternoon game drive will take you through acacia forests to spot leopards, Rothschild giraffes, and flocks of pelicans on the lake.

Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Journey to the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at Mara Ashnil Camp, located along the Mara River, in time for lunch. The afternoon game drive introduces you to the vast plains where the Big Five roam freely. Witness the drama of the African wilderness as predators prepare for the evening hunt.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Ashnil Camp.

Day 6: Full Day in Maasai Mara

Spend a full day exploring the Maasai Mara with a packed picnic lunch. Traverse the rolling savannahs in search of lions, cheetahs, and elephants. Depending on the season (July-October), you may witness the Great Migration crossing the river. Even outside migration season, the wildlife density here is unmatched.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Ashnil Camp.

Day 7: Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha

Bid farewell to the Mara and drive to Lake Naivasha. Check in at Lake Naivasha Country Club for a relaxing lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to see hippos up close or enjoy a guided walking safari on Crescent Island (optional), walking safely among zebras and giraffes.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Country Club.

Day 8: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park

Depart for Amboseli National Park, famous for its massive herds of elephants and views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge for lunch. The afternoon game drive offers iconic photography opportunities of elephants with the snow-capped mountain in the background.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Day 9: Full Day in Amboseli

Enjoy a full day in Amboseli. Explore the swamp grounds where elephants bathe and feed. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers. Return to the lodge for a midday break before an evening game drive to spot hyenas and lions as the sun sets behind Kilimanjaro.

Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Day 10: Amboseli to Tsavo West National Park

Drive to the neighboring Tsavo West National Park, known for its rugged volcanic landscape. Check in at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge. Visit Mzima Springs to see hippos underwater and explore the Shetani Lava Flow. The park’s dense bush is excellent for spotting leopards and kudus.

Dinner and overnight at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.

Day 11: Tsavo West to Tsavo East National Park

Cross into Tsavo East National Park, the largest protected area in Kenya. The landscape opens up into vast, red-earth savannahs. Check in at Ashnil Aruba Lodge. Look out for the famous “Red Elephants” of Tsavo and the unique maneless lions during your afternoon game drive.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 12: Full Day in Tsavo East

Spend the day exploring the immense wilderness of Tsavo East. Visit the Aruba Dam, a vital water source that attracts diverse wildlife. The flat terrain makes it easier to spot cheetahs and large herds of buffalo. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 13: Tsavo East to Nairobi

Enjoy a final morning game drive as you exit Tsavo East. Begin your return journey to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. You will be dropped off at your hotel, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking the end of your grand safari expedition.
