Your adventure begins with a scenic drive north, crossing the equator and passing the slopes of Mount Kenya. The landscape changes dramatically as you enter the Northern Frontier District. Arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch at Samburu Sopa Lodge. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive to spot the unique “Samburu Special Five”—species like the Beisa Oryx and Grevy’s Zebra that are not found in the southern parks.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge.
Spend a full day exploring the diverse habitats of Samburu. The Ewaso Nyiro River attracts large herds of elephants and is home to hippos and crocodiles. Keep your eyes peeled for leopards resting in the trees and lions stalking prey in the long grass. The reserve is also a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 450 species. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild or return to the lodge for a hot meal.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge.
After breakfast, drive south to the cool highlands of the Aberdare National Park. Arrive at The Aberdare Country Club for lunch. Afterward, you will be transferred to Treetops Lodge (or The Ark), a historic “tree hotel” overlooking a waterhole and salt lick. Spend the afternoon and evening watching wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and sometimes giant forest hogs, from the comfort of the lodge’s viewing decks.
Dinner and overnight at Treetops Lodge (or The Ark).
Wake up to views of the forest and enjoy breakfast. Descend into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Check in at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to explore the acacia forests and lake shores. Nakuru is a sanctuary for endangered Black and White Rhinos and is famous for its populations of flamingos and pelicans.
Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Maili Saba Camp.
Journey to the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve, the highlight of any Kenyan safari. Drive through the Rift Valley floor and arrive at Ashnil Mara Camp in time for lunch. The afternoon game drive introduces you to the vast savannahs where the Big Five roam freely. Witness the incredible density of wildlife as predators prepare for the night hunt.
Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.
Spend a full day exploring the Maasai Mara with a packed picnic lunch. Traverse the rolling plains in search of lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Depending on the season (July-October), you may witness the Great Migration crossing the Mara River. Even outside migration season, the wildlife viewing is spectacular, with large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles.
Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.
Enjoy a second day in the Mara to explore different sectors of the reserve. Visit the river to see hippos and crocodiles or take an optional Hot Air Balloon Safari at sunrise for a bird’s-eye view of the plains. You can also visit a traditional Maasai Village to learn about the local culture. This extra day ensures you don’t miss any of the action.
Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.
Bid farewell to the Mara and drive to the tranquil Lake Naivasha. Check in at Lake Naivasha Country Club for a relaxing lunch. In the afternoon, take an optional boat ride to see hippos up close or enjoy a guided walking safari on Crescent Island, where you can walk safely among giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Country Club.
Depart for Amboseli National Park, famous for its massive herds of elephants and iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge for lunch. The afternoon game drive offers excellent photography opportunities of elephants dust-bathing against the backdrop of the snow-capped mountain.
Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
Enjoy a final early morning game drive to catch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi. You will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking the end of your 10-day adventure.
