Itinerary

WORLD FAMOUS BIRD SANCTUARIES SAFARI

Visit the world famous Bird Sanctuaries of the Great Rift Valley Lake Bogoria and Nakuru, then South over the Mau Escarpment to Kenya’s greatest concentration of game – Maasai Mara home to the Big 5 as well as the annual wildebeest migration in July-October).

1.NAIROBI-LAKE BOGORIA NATIONAL RESERVE

Depart Nairobi in the early morning stopping enroute to view the spectacular Great Rift Valley from the escarpment looking out for Mt Suswa and Longonot in the far distance. We arrive in time for lunch at the resort followed by a relaxation by the pool.

This small saline Lake Bogoria is home to various birds and depending on the time of year numerous Lesser and Greater Flamingos; a wonderful sight of pink which you can enjoy walking along the shores..
There is the option to visit a Pokot village to get an insight into their traditional way of life (extra cost).
About half of the Pokot are semi nomadic and semi pastoralists. They herd cattle, sheep and goats relying on their products to sustain their livelihoods.

Dinner and overnight at the Lake Bogoria Spa Resort

2.LAKE BOGORIA NATIONAL RESERVE-LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, depart for Nakuru National Park which covers 180 sq. km and is home to warthogs, waterbuck, buffaloes, reedbucks, and the occasional leopard. White and black rhinos were introduced to the park some years ago and the park has also retained its reputation as a bird watchers’ delight with more than 400 species of bird found here.

Arrive in time for lunch and in the afternoon embark on a game drive

Dinner and overnight at the Cliff Camp.

3.LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK-MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Early breakfast and depart and we proceed to towards Narok town. We make a stop for lunch en route and arrive Maasai Mara in the late afternoon. We arrive at the camp and relax by the pool. Birdwatching in the Maasai Mara isn’t for the birds. With almost 500 bird species and a daunting 47 species of birds of prey, the Maasai Mara’s treetops, bushes and skies are a feast for birdwatcher’s eyes. Size wise these savannah birds range from freakishly large, such as the world’s largest bird the ostrich, to teeny tiny sunbirds – hard to spot with the naked eye.

Later you may enjoy a guided nature or bird walk in the vicinity of the camp grounds.

Dinner and overnight at Ashinl Mara Camp

4.FULL DAY IN MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Early morning and late afternoon game drives returning to the camp for lunch. Maasai Mara game drives are rewarding all year round. It is common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal as well as cheetahs and leopards which are harder to spot.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp

5.ANOTHER DAY IN MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast depart with a packed lunch to enjoy a full day exploring the parks and rivers which offer very good opportunities for seeing the Big Five. There are various optional activities offered outside of game drives for an extra cost. For example; balloon trips are an entirely outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains and the wildlife after which you come back down for a beautiful champagne breakfast. Horse riding is also an option in vast open spaces dotted with lonely umbrella acacias, masses of wildebeest, dazzles of zebras and other wildlife. A cultural village visit is also recommended.

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp

6.RETURN TO NAIROBI

Early breakfast before departing back towards Nairobi. Before departure there is the option to enjoy a nature walk in the company of a Maasai safari guide. This is the best way of getting closer to nature and its wildlife. Your safari guide armed with traditional Maasai spear and club will walk you through the local area where all your senses will be put into action at every step. Smell the plants used in traditional medicines, taste some of the edible wild fruits, listen to the birds and the grunting of the Impala, identify footprints and animal spoor.

We arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon. Drop off at your hotel.
