10 DAYS TOP RATED  BIRDING SAFARI

Day 1. Nairobi – Lake Bogoria National Reserve

Depart Nairobi in the early morning stopping enroute to view the spectacular Great Rift Valley from the escarpment looking out for Mt Suswa and Longonot in the far distance. We arrive in time for lunch at the resort followed by a relaxation by the pool.

This small saline Lake Bogoria is home to various birds and depending on the time of year numerous Lesser and Greater Flamingos; a wonderful sight of pink which you can enjoy walking along the shores.

Return for Dinner and overnight at the Lake Bogoria Spa Resort.

Days 2. Lake Bogoria National Reserve

Full day exploring lake Bogoria, well known by many avid Ornithologist as mecca for Birds, with 500 species of birds having been recorded. Explore this area with field Birding around Lake Bogoria, and its environs, the Cliffs and the bushes. There are possibilities to see rare species like, Cape Eagle Owl, White-faced Scops Owl, Jackson’s Hornbill, Hemprich’s Hornbill, Brown-Tailed Rock Chat, Nothern Red Bishop, Northern Masked Weaver and White Billed Buffalo Weaver, Olivaceous Warbler, Northern brownbul, Jackson’s golden backed weaver, Little weaver, Brown Tailed Rock Chat, Goliath heron, Northern Shoveller, Verreauxs eagle owl, Bristle crowned starling, Senegal Thickeners, Pygmy falcon, Blue cheecked bee-eater.

Dinner and Overnight will be at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort.

Day 3. Lake Bogoria –  Lake Naivasha

Early breakfast before departing. We will depart for Lake Naivasha after checking out. Lake Naivasha is the only fresh water lake without a physical outlet in Kenya. Its freshness is maintained by a combination of underground out flow and sedimentation of salts. The lake supports a diverse water-bird community, with more than 80 species recorded regularly. It is a significant site for Red knobbed coots, African spoonbill, African jacana and little grebes depending on water levels.

Dinner and overnight stay at Naivasha Country Club.

Day 4. Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park

You will have an early morning drive to Amboseli National Park. You will check in at your accommodation and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a drive. Amboseli National Park is situated due south of Nairobi. Most of the park consists of a dry, ancient lake bed and fragile grassland with patches of acacia woodland. In the southern area, there are a number of small, rocky volcanic hills. There is an immense view of Mount Kilimanjaro which is across the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It is also dominated by vast Lake Amboseli which is dry outside the rainy season. There are more than 600 species of birds in the park therefore making it a good birding destination.

Day 5: Explore Amboseli Park

You’ll rise up early in the morning for breakfast before leaving for a drive while enjoying the good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit. The swamps are great for waterbirds such as egrets, herons, pelicans and crowned cranes. Large numbers of flamingos may be present in the two rainy seasons (March to May and November to December). Grassland areas offer some interesting ground birds such as Hartlaub’s bustard and the localized Pangani longclaw. The park’s acacia woodland holds some dry-country specials such as steel-blue whydah, white-bellied go-away bird and Von der Decken’s hornbill.

Day 6: Amboseli – Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast you will depart the camp for Tsavo West park which is a 4 hours journey. You will arrive in time for lunch and check. Tsavo National Park, offers many attractions apart from its bird’s life. The foremost is the famous Mzima Springs where up to 227.3 million liters of cool crystal clear water flows out of the ground through porous volcanic rocks. The water is believed to originate from Chyulu Hills, via an underground river. We shall depart for drive in the late afternoon in search of the parks birds and return to the camp when the sun sets.

Day 7: Tsavo West National Park

We shall leave for an early drive in the park after breakfast. Tsavo West offers great bird watching in all seasons. Many of the more unusual specials are resident and can be spotted at any time. Migratory birds, a real feature of birding in the park, fill the trees, waterways and skies from November to April. The park is a prolific birdlife features more than 400 recorded species. Ngulia Hills, one of the landmarks in the park, is situated along one of the world’s busiest avian migration routes. More than 100 migrant and resident species have been ringed here, the most prolific being marsh warbler, river warbler, red-backed shrike, thrush nightingale, common whitethroat and many more birds.

Day 8: Tsavo West – Tsavo East National Park

You’ll enjoy a sumptuous breakfast and later check out and embark on a drive to Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo East National Park has an impressive checklist of more than 500 bird species. It has many dry-country specials that can be easy to spot, including the magnificent golden-breasted starling, golden pipit and vulturine guineafowl. The park is also the southernmost stronghold for the Somali ostrich. The park’s huge area is a significant wintering ground for migrant species from Europe. Migrant birds are present from November to April. You will check in early in the afternoon and have lunch and head out for a drive to enjoy the park’s birds and serene.

Day 9: Tsavo East National Park

You’ll enjoy an early breakfast before leaving for your drive.  At noon you will return to the camp for lunch and leisure. Some of the expected  birds to see in the park include; African finfoot,Black –faced sandgrouse, Fischer’s starling, Golden pipit, Golden –breasted starling, Lesser krestel,Martial eagle, Northern brownbul,Pangani longclaw,Red –bellied parrot, Rufous chatterer,Secretaruy bird, Shelley’s starling, Slender –tailed nightjar, Somali bee –eater, Somali bunting, Taita falcon, Taita fiscal, Vulturine guineafowl among many others.

  1. Return to Nairobi

After breakfast, you will check out and you will return to Nairobi in time for your onward flight by either road transport or Sgr.
